Listen to Your Artist: After the session, your artist will give you detailed aftercare instructions. Follow these closely to ensure your tattoo heals properly. You can download the instructions below.
Clean Gently: Following your artists instruction, remove the second skin and gently wash your tattoo with mild, fragrance-free soap and warm water. Pat it dry with a clean paper towel—don’t rub it. If required apply another second skin.
Apply Healing Ointment: Use a small amount of the recommended healing ointment (like Butterluxe or unscented tattoo balm) to keep the area moisturised. Don’t over-apply—less is more.
Avoid Picking or Scratching: As your tattoo heals, it might scab or peel. This is totally normal, but don’t pick at it! Let it heal naturally to avoid infections or pulling out ink.
Avoid the Sun: Keep your fresh tattoo out of direct sunlight. UV rays can damage a healing tattoo and cause it to fade. Once healed, always use sunscreen to protect the design.
No Swimming: Stay out of pools, hot tubs, and the ocean until your tattoo is fully healed (about 2-3 weeks). Submerging your tattoo in water can lead to infections and slow down the healing process.
Be Patient with Healing: Tattoos take time to heal—usually around 2-4 weeks, depending on the size and placement. During this period, keep it clean, moisturised, and protected. Expect some itching and peeling, but that’s all part of the process.
Long-Term Care: Even after your tattoo heals, take care of it by moisturising regularly and protecting it from the sun. This will help keep the colours bright and the lines sharp for years to come.
